A selection of works will be read at the Glen Park station followed by a live musical performance. Writers submitted short works around the theme of “motion” and 30 finalists were chosen by a panel of Bay Area literary legends. In celebration of BART turning 50 and in partnership with Litquake comes the first-ever BART short-fiction writing contest. Spending time at a BART station is usually not high on our list, but here’s one example of when hanging out on the platform will be entirely enjoyable. Litquake, SF’s longest running literary festival, is back to its in-person glory with almost 100 events across the city over two weeks celebrating storytelling of all genres from poetry to nonfiction to kid-lit. While the event is still BYOB, hard-sided coolers are no longer allowed inside the fest. Like other years, the lineup lives up to its “hardly strictly” moniker with musical guests such as Sam Bush, Galactic and Marcus Mumford, Jake Blount, the Brothers Comatose, Seratones and Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. Warren Hellman, who died in 2011 but started a foundation that still funds the fest. Now in its 22nd year, the festival continues to be subsidized by investment banker F.

2Īfter a pandemic hiatus, this beloved three-day music festival is back - and as free as ever. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, Sept. Rick "Baby Grandpa," Coyote and Tygar Larry created a foam bath at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park on Oct. Check the website the week before to glimpse the creative flyers and get a sense of the vibe. Each performance has a different motif, and October promises horror themes, including “Slay” on Oct. “Casual Friday” naked shows take place at the Sand Ladder, while Saturday and Sunday shows go down at Lobos Creek. Like the name suggests, the shows begin an hour before sunset (for the most flattering of lighting, of course) and take advantage of Baker Beach’s clothing-optional ethos. You can catch a sunset drag show on the beach three times per week all year round, but SF’s warmest month makes this weekly show even more of a must-see. Golden Hour Drag, weekends through October

It’s Fleetwood Mac and “church” like you’ve never experienced, with hundreds of candles flickering against the cathedral’s stained glass and gothic arches. October’s show offers a chance to get “taken by the wind” as a violin and piano create fresh instrumental renditions of Fleetwood Mac’s greatest hits.
